John Brown was born on May 9, 1800 to Owen and Ruth Brown. His
father was a very religious person who taught his children that slavery was wrong. At age 15, John witnessed the
beating of a slave child which "caused him to swear eternal war with slavery." From then on, John commited to helping the
slaves run away and fight for their freedom.
